Health and Safety FAQ’s

When you’re looking for a Florida senior living community, your number one concern is the health and safety of your loved ones. At The Cabana at Jensen Dunes, it’s our top priority, too. Here are some of the questions we often get on that topic.

Are your staff members trained and licensed?

Yes. Our dedicated team comprises of trained nurse assistance, licensed practical nurses and registered nurses – all are licensed and/or certified by the state of Florida. In addition, at Treasure Cove, our Memory Support neighborhood, the staff is specially trained to care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders with compassion and dignity.

Will someone be available to help if something happens to my loved one at night?

At The Cabana, we have licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants on duty 24/7. In the event of an emergency during the nighttime hours, our licensed nurse can evaluate the situation and contact the physician or call paramedics.

What happens if my loved one gets seriously ill or needs to go to the hospital?

If a resident experiences a sudden illness or a change in their medical condition, our nursing staff will make an evaluation and, if needed, consult with a medical doctor. In the case of an emergency, we will send the resident directly to the ER for further evaluation and contact the family immediately.

Recreation and Activities FAQ’s

As we age, it becomes increasingly important to stay physically and mentally engaged. That’s why our community offers a variety of activities that promote a holistic approach to wellness. Here are the answers to a few commonly asked questions.

What kind of activities do you provide?

Some of the most popular include playing bocce ball, painting in our art studio, going on local outings, and doing light group exercises. Everything is designed to suit our residents’ common and individual interests.

How do you keep residents engaged?

It is our job – and our passion – to provide programs and events that are stimulating, educational and fun! We keep residents informed by regularly posting activity calendars throughout the community, and our closed-circuit TV channel includes a list of upcoming events.

What if someone does not want to participate?

Residents can engage in activities as much, or as little, as they want. We include residents in our monthly planning meetings – and when they come up with a great idea, we make it happen.

Fees and Insurance FAQ’s

Making the move to assisted living is an important life event that often begins with uncertainty. On a daily basis, we answer dozens of questions from prospective residents and their families. Here are a few of the most common questions.

Is there an entrance fee?

No. The Cabana is an all-rental community with a flexible month-to-month arrangement. However, as with almost all assisted living communities in Florida, there is a one-time community fee.

What is included in the cost?

The monthly fee includes three prepared meals daily, routine housekeeping services, utilities, and assistance with bathing, dressing and eating. We offer transportation to and from several places including healthcare appointments and convenience stores. In addition, residents enjoy a variety of planned activities, fitness programs and social functions at no additional cost.

Veteran’s Aid and Attendance

If you are already getting a VA pension and meet just one of the following criteria, you may be able to obtain additional aid and attendance funds.

• You require assistance in completing regular daily activities, for example, getting dressed or bathing, among other activities.

• You are bedridden for a part of the day due to a debilitating condition or illness. • Due to diminishing mental or physical health, you are part of an assisted living community.

• Having eyesight conditions that significantly reduce vision or have a visual field of 5 degrees or lower.

Veterans who commonly receive pensions and qualify for the aid and attendance benefit actively served in the military for 90 consecutive days, with at least one day being defined as wartime by the VA. You must be 65 years old who was honorably discharged, or their surviving spouse is eligible.
